Genesis Chapter 1, Verse 1 reads: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis as a chapter in the Bible covers a lot of territory, including Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Noah and the flood, the covenant with Abraham, all the way to Joseph and his coat of many colors.

The first line of the Bible is the first line of Genesis, the book which details the earths beginnings according to its teachings. The line is "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. " (from King James Bible edition) followed by "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. "

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The earth didn't come from a big bang or something silly like that.

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth". This will depend upon the bible version which you are reading, but in spite of minor changes, the meaning is the same always
