Well on a traditional small block Chevrolet engine the firing order goes 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The number one cylinder is the front most one on the drivers side of the engine. All you odd cylinder are one this side. Which means all the even number cylinder will be on the opposite side.
Early style small block v8 firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Number 1 being the front driver side cylinder. The driver side cylinders are odd(1,3,5,7) and passengers ones are even(2,4,6,8).
Well this really depends on which engine you are working on. Not all models have the same sequence. A standard small block has a firing order or 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. To be sure you should either look it up online or purchase a manual that has it in there. Just make sure to get your cylinder numbers right.
The two main "VL" labeled plugs are the primary spark plugs on Chevy's. These plugs work when the car is traveling under 30MPH. The others kick in later.
