What is the "duty-free allowance"?

In other words, how much stuff can I bring back with me from my trip?

You're allowed to legally bring back an amount that would appear that you're not trafficking. So a reasonable amount that would hold substance for one person. This prevents exploits over seas, and cannot be done without certification.

The "duty free" allowance depends on where you are returning from and what was acquired. There is a dollar limit, and a specific limit on cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.
