Coke usually refers to cola - like Coca cola or Pepsi. Soda can mean any type of soda - like orange, grape, or lemon-lime sodas.

It is not the same because there are all sorts of different sodas. The word soda is related to a soft drink with some fizz, such as coke, pepsi, fanta, orangina and I could keep on naming brands...

There really is no difference at all. Sometimes when you grow up in certain parts of the country you call things different. Soda can be called sometimes pop too!

Coke is a name brand and soda can be any type of carbonated drink. The south call all drinks sodas, but you need to bee specific on what type of soda you want. Orange, Grape, Coke, Pepsi etc.
