What is the difference between muskmelon and cantaloupe?

The main difference is the rind. A cantaloupe rind is warty and rough whereas the rind of a musk melon is netted.

A lot of people think they are the same thing, but they aren't. No cantaloupe is actually grown commercially in the United States, only muskmelons. Cantaloupes are a rough warty fruit. The muskmelon is different and has a pale green smooth skin. Muskmelon are a touch stronger in flavor then the cantaloupe also.
