The only difference is in the spelling. "Tonne" is closer to the original Old English: tunne. "Ton" is a bit more modern and shortened. They are identical in meaning.

A ton is equal to 2,000 pounds. A tonne is a metric ton, which is equal to 1,ooo kilograms. This means that 1 ton is equal to about 2,204. 62 pounds. 1 tonne is equal to 1. 1023 tons. Also, a tonne is just called a ton in places where the metric system is the standard.
