Ravens/crows are members of the genus Corvus. For example, the American crow is the species Corvus brachyrhynchos; the common raven is Corvus corax. There's many species in Corvus which share the name "crow" or "raven." One difference is size: the common raven (~25") is bigger than the American crow (~18"). Also, ravens imitate sounds around them, including human speech. "Nevermore!"

The raven is a considerably larger bird than the crow, growing to as much as 24 inches in length. It tends to inhabit a more northerly range, and is slightly shyer than the crow. In many cultures, the raven has been given the attributes of great wisdom and greater cunning.

The genus Corvus is used to describe both ravens AND crows, so they do share most of their traits, and indeed, most species look nearly identical except for coloring.

Ravens and crows are both black, but different in size. At 25 inches tall the raven is larger than the crow. The raven's feathers will appear to have a blue or purple tint, whereas the crow's will appear purple with a green tint.
