The cost is more than you may know- it's now illegal in many states, and no reputable vet will perform this operation. Docked tails are now a disqualification in shows by AKC standards. Most countries ban docking, and though it's not illegal per se, in the US, it is illegal in most states and grounds for cruelty prosecution and seizure.

It greatly depends on where you live (what state, if you are in an urban, suburban, or rural area, etc). Additionally, even vets in the same area vary a ton in their prices. To get an estimate for the vets in your area you should call different clinics and ask about their prices.
