Many writers don't punctuate the possessive form correctly. If the noun is singular, one adds a 's to it. For example, boy turns into boy's. If plural, one adds only a ' to it. For example, houses turns into houses'. If the noun ends in "s," one only adds a ' to it--Marcus turns to Marcus'.

For nouns which are singular, add an 's. For plural nouns that end in letters other than s, add an 's. For those ending in s, add '.
