The general cause of hard water stains, especially in stools, sinks, bathtubs and showers is the chemicals found in water. If your city does not have a good system of removing these chemicals, about the only way you can prevent these stains is to install a good water softener.

You can spray cleaners on your shower everyday to prevent these but you may still get a small amount of hard water stains. They are caused by the amount of minerals in your water. If you have a lot you will get a lot of stains.
