Cleaning fruit with water is always the best way. Do not use soaps or sanitizers. Just rinse the fruit with warm water to kill germs, than cold water to keep the fruit cold. To dry it off use a clean paper towel or cloth towel, never use a used towel as this will only add germs.

A gentle soap that is food-compatible and has pleasant-tasting residue is best, such as Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap. It is a fine, all-purpose soap that washes off well, and even if residue remains, your fruit will simply have a slightly minty flavor, quite easy to endure.

The best way to clean a fruit is to take a clean green and yellow dishwashing sponge, wet it with water, and gently rub the fruit using the green side. Gently rub the fruit and rinse with water, then use the yellow side and dry the fruit on paper towels.

Water and brushing alone don’t entirely work because many residues are oil-based, such as pesticides, waxes and the ones that gloveless shoppers transfer when hunting through produce bins. Even organic fruits and vegetables are filled with oily fingerprints.
