The Bad Astronomy blog published by Discover Magazine online and written by Phil Plait. It is a great source of science humor, but also of current events and discoveries in science.

If they are historical events, you can look them up in encyclopedias. If they are recent, you can look at recent news articles or newspapers. Wikipedia is a good source.
