The original Star Wars movie, also called A New Hope or Episode 4 is the best. The other five in the series are great as well.

I think that Tarkovsky's version of Solaris is definitely the best classic sci-fi movie ever made. The more modern version staring George Clooney did not do the original movie justice.

The Thing From Another World is great. Also try The Day the Earth Stood Still and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
