Try to find a brush with wide, hard bristles. You do not want one with too many bristles either. Always brush hair from the ends to the scalp. This will help get the tangles out of your hair easier.

Basically it is inadvisable to brush coarse hair; brushing releases natural oils, which is counterproductive to coarse hair. Alternatively use a round ceramic barrel brush containing nylon pin bristles.

My favorite brush for thick hair is the Goody Ouchless Hair Brush. When looking for a hair brush try to buy one that had hard plastic bristles that are placed about a half centimeter apart. A brush that promises no snag is also valuable, for coarse hair tends to knot easier.
