It depends on the case and what you're after. It can take as little as 24 months if the matter is settled out-of-court. If you go to trial, it can extend the matter for several years, especially if the defendant appeals the ruling. Your attorney should be able to better advise you.

With a lawyer expect approximately a year or two. This would insure you have no lasting problems from any injuries imposed. If you simple wish to settle fast you can attempt to negotiate with the other party yourself. In this case you can expect much less influence with them. Alternately you can tell the lawyer to settle when you want.

The average time is about two years. There are many, many factors to be considered. If the case goes to trial, it could be years and further on to appeal, it could be years and years.
