The arrangement is called Nikah Mut'ah. It is an arrangement of a pre-determined duration. It expires when the time runs out. The Book of Marriage 8-3252 shows that Muhammad allowed his men to use temporary marriage to sanction prostitution.

It's a way around sex outside of marriage. Men and women can contract to be "married" for a shorter period of time so they can have sex.

It's called mut'a, which means pleasure. It's how practicing Muslims can relieve sexual frustration if they don't have a regular marriage. Contracts for temporary marriage can be for a period of minutes up to a period of many years.

It's called Nikah Mut'ah. A man may take up to 4 temporary wives to relieve sexual frustration if he doesn't have a permanent wife. The temporary marriage expires after the pre-set time; no divorce is necessary.

Temporary marriage is a marriage contract willingly entered between an man and a woman. For all intents and purposes they are legally married, except that the contract has an expiration date. Upon expiration, the man and woman part ways and are considered to be like strangers to each other. Women must wait two months before marrying again.
