Standardbred racing, or "trotter racing" is a type of horse race where Standardbred horses, not Thoroughbred horses race. Each horse pulls a small cart or sulky, behind them and instead of galloping, the horses trot at a great speed. The horses are bred specifically for their trotting ability, resulting in this breed. It is widespread all over America.

Standardbred racing is widely available in America, predominantly in Florida, Kentucky, and California. Standardbred is actually the breed type of horse used in Standardbred racing, where a rider on a 2 wheeled cart 'paces' his horse around a track. The horses loose points or become disqualified if the horses pace gait breaks into a trot or gallop.

Standardbred racing is also known as sulky or harness racing. It is a variation of the traditional horse race that involves a two wheeled buggy, know as the sulky, and a very lightweight driver.

Standardbreds are a breed of horse known for their natural ability to trot very quickly. This trate has been bred into them over the past several hundred years. In Standardbred races, horses actually pull a small, lightweight cart or "sulky" which is controlled by the jockey riding in it. The horses trot instead of gallop during the race.

It's sulky racing, and it's at many tracks throughout the US. The Standardbred is the breed of racehorse used. They are smaller than Thoroughbreds and are trained to be either trotters or pacers. There are rescue organizations for Standardbred horses who have retired from racing, too.
