Therapists create a comfortable, non-judgmental environment by demonstrating congruence, empathy, and unconditional positive regard toward their patients. This aids patients in finding their own solutions to their problems.
Person-centered therapy is the most common technique used by therapists. It involves creating a positive environment for a person to work through their problems with the guidance of the therapist. They do not tell the person what to do, but merely help them answer their own problems. They can offer suggestions but won't necessary say something is "right" or "wrong."
