You want to start off with a good potting soil. After you have planted the seeds, make sure the soil does not dry out. At first it is wise to keep these plants under a florescent light for at least 18 hours a day.

Growing tomatoes in a greenhouse is not to different from growing them outdoors. You need to make sure that it is very warm, and they get plenty of water.

It depends what method you choose. Hydroponics are systems that require no soil, but are very complex. You need pumps, pipeing and some high tech knowledge to make hydroponic growing systems work. For this reason, the novice is probably better off with soil. In this case you just grow the plants like a normal houseplant.

Southern tomato greenhouses are erected in January, by the time spring arrives the plants are at least 6" high and are ready for transplant or sell. Fertilizer and soil which has vermiculite added to it will produce hardy green house tomatoes. Place seeds in flats of soil, once they have reached 1" to 2", transplant into indiviual pots or trays.

Start with good soil. Plant your seeds 1/4 inch deep. Keep them under fluorescent light. Make sure you pollinate regularly!
