You will begin by earning a BA or BS in Anthropology since archeology is a subfield of this discipline. To work in archaeology, you will need a Masters or Ph.D.

Each college or university sets the requirements for each degree. An archaeology degree would include a concentration in the area of study, including humanities studies on ancient civilizations, etc. There are many specialty areas in the field. You would narrow your studies/focus in graduate school and continue to do so through a PhD program.

You basically you have to take your undergraduate program in archaeology. It will take you about four years to get your degree. You can learn more by searching up archaeology at any undergraduate program.

Most undergraduate institutions in the US do not have a separate archeology department. That being said, in order to specialize or major in archeology, one may have to take courses that span multiple disciplines, including history and anthropology. Usually, a BS/BA is sufficient to work as a field archeologist in the US.
