Most roofing consists of a wooden structure with asphalt shingles that can easily be torn up, but hurrican roofing consists of metal which makes it much stronger against wind.

Mandatory factors for hurricane roofing: 1)Structural walls- strong enough to secure tie or bond beams. 2) Trusses should be double strapped. 3) Roof deck- 5/8" plywood and 8D ring shanked nails. 4) Hip roof safer than gabled roof.

Many companies describe their products as hurricane roofing however the only true hurricane roofing is made of steel and beefed up with three times the hardware of normal roofing.

It is a roofing system and materials rated to withstand certain levels of the extreme wind and water the come with hurricanes.
