What is "biological weathering"?

Is it a surgical procedure?

Answer by  Sweet58 (25)

No, this is not a surgical procedure. It's a natural occurance that takes place in nature. It is when rock is broken down by plants or animals. For example, the root of a plant, while inside a rock fracture, will grow and expand causing the rock to break into many pieces.

Biological weathering is a process in which the activities of living things breakdown the environment. For example, the burrowing of prairie dogs causes the "weathering" of agricultural fields. Ivy growing on a building and breaking down the masonry is another example.
