Christians believe that Christ ascended, or rose up, to Heaven on the 40th day of Easter. Ascension Day, then, is always celebrated 39 days after Easter Sunday. When Jesus ascended into Heaven, he told his disciples that he would be sending someone after him. Ten days later, the Holy Spirit is believed to have descended, marking the Day of Pentecost.
