In biology, an enzyme is something that makes a biological reaction go faster. For example, salivary amylase speeds up the process of digesting carbohydrates in the mouth. A substrate is the thing that the enzyme interacts with. An enzyme substrate complex is the enzyme bound to the substrate. Oftentimes, substrates will have binding sites specifically for certain enzymes.

This is the name for the moment in time when the enzyme is bound to its substrate, before a reaction is completed and a product is made.
