A precision sewing machine is the basic machine for most sewing but it can also do embroidery and other fancy stitchs. Several companies make them includding Singer, Brother, Viking,and Janome.
A Precision sewing machine was manufactured by the DeLuxe company in the 1950's. You can find them at antique shops or on eBay. An attached bar has a ruffler feed mechanism. The feeddogs feed the fabric from back to front and the thread tension is on the left end.
