diy  green  walls

Question by  Roxie (20)

What is a natural green way to remove the paste left on the wall after removing wallpaper?

Answer by  LouB (294)

After you have used a heat gun and scraper, there are a lot of natural green products that remove the sticky residue. Most of these can be found in the grocery store. Try Green Works All purpose cleaner first.

There are two simple ways- scraping the paste off with a trowel or steaming the paste and then scraping it off.

Just scrub it with soap and water and a brush no need for harmful chemicals, also i will suggest that you use oil first to loosen up the sticky substance.

Your best move is probably to use a mixture of water and possibly a bit of soap. If you want you can even buy "green" soap without additives.

Most wallpaper adhesive is either water soluble or will come off easily with vinegar (test a small area to see which works better). If vinegar doesn't work and you are determined to stay green, or if there is residue left over, you may have to do a bit of sanding.

I have always used hot water and a big sponge. When I say big sponge, I mean the type that you get from your box hardware store that the contractors use on flooring. The hot water loosens the glue and makes the paper easy to remove. If you can't pull the glued paper, use a scraper.

A spray bottle filled with a mixture of water and vinegar. The older the wallpaper the more vinegar you should use in the mixture. If you have the time heat the water component to just below boiling. The soulution tends to work much effiecently if once its applied allow it to soak for several minutes before wiping off .

Soak a section of wall with warm water (a spray bottle works best) and let it sit for a few minutes. Then scrub with a stiff brush and wipe off.

Use hot water and white vinegar mixed together and sponged heavily onto the wall paste. Then scrape the glue off with a putty knife or some other type scraper.

Vinegar naturally softens the past that is used to hold wallpaper, so if you apply it to the wallpaper, you can easily strip it off.
