The Roman Catholic church categorizes sins as venial (smaller, sometimes accidental sins) and mortal. A sin is mortal when the sin is of grave matter, the sinner is fully aware of the sin, and the sinner commits the sin deliberately. The seven deadly sins are all mortal sins, but church doctrine includes a host of other acts as well.

All sin is mortal - in that it separates you from God. But Jesus' blood washes away ALL sin, allowing us to be with God in Heaven. In First John chapter 1, Verse 7, if we are walking in the light, we are continually forgiven for all sin! How comforting that is.

Mortal sin is one that unless absolved, will send your soul to Hell after death. From the Roman Catholic perspective for a sing to be considered mortal, it must be a serious matter, and that the sin was consensually committed with full-knowledge that it was wrong. An example would be breaking one of the Ten Commandments.

A mortal sin is a term used in christian theology to describe any of the more severe sins, all of which will cause the sinner to go to hell.

Catholics classify sins as "mortal" and "venial." A mortal sin is very serious; it separates the sinner from God's grace and condemns him to Hell, unless the sin is absolved. To be mortal, a sin must involve a serious matter, and be committed knowingly and voluntarily. Divorce, blasphemy, extramarital sex, and masturbation, among others, are considered mortal sins.

Any act against God's laws is a mortal sin when not asked for forgiveness. Without forgiveness, a person is condemned to hell. These acts can include blasphemy, envy, malice, murder, suicide, etc.

A mortal sin is a sin that leads to death. All wicked actions are sin, but not every sin leads to death.
