Rake the area and water. Then replace the dead area with new seed and place straw over it to protect it will it is growing.

The cheapest way is to fertilize and water regularly the existing grass and let it recover naturally. To speed things up, you can overseed the grass with new seed and just increase the watering frequency.

Dead grass takes a while to grow healthy again. Watering your lawn is a must and is cheap along with some inexpensive weed killer and lawn fertilizer which you should not use too much of because it can kill your grass again.

Dead grass is dead and can not be revived. Dormant grass may look dead during winter or severe drought but still has life below the surface.
