Bermuda grass is both heat and shade tolerant, basically it will grow everywhere and anywhere. However, it is not my favorite just because of those reasons, it can invade gardens and no grass areas. St. Augustine can grow very well in the shade, provided that it has plenty of moisture. It requires a little more care, however.

Carpetgrass is a good grass that will tolerate shade. It thrives best under pine trees or places of filtered light. Places to avoid would be large shade trees such as Oaks.
