A dividend is the amount that you want to divide up. Its the number being divided. An example would be 12 divided by 3 equals 4; 12 is the dividend.

The amount that you want to divide up. dividend ÷ divisor = quotient Example: in 12 ÷ 3 = 4, 12 is the dividend
