The problem with a c-section birthing plan is that you are having surgery so it is hard to know how you, your body and your baby will react. I would suggest planning with your doctor what your ideal situation would be, but also leave in place some options for if things don't go exactly as planned.

I will start off by saying, do not think you will be able to do it alone. You will need someone around to help you do simple tasks like picking your baby up. A pillow will be your best friend for a couple of days. Choose lightweight pants and slip on shoes.

While you won't have as much control as compared to a vaginal birth that doesn't mean you can't plan what you want. You should decide if your partner wants to cut the ambical cord. You usually can have at least one support person in the room at the time as well. Also consider whether you want to breastfeed initially.

I think you would want to focus on what happens after the baby is born. Who holds baby first, that you give baby a kiss, will your partner stay with you or go with baby, being able to breastfeed as soon as possible, etc.

Make sure you have someone to help you after the birth. It's going to be very hard to get around. Also make sure you have clothes packed beforehand.

C-sections are major surgery, so you do have less control over things like anesthesia, or burning candles or playing music (not allowed in the operating room). However, your birth plan can still include your desires regarding breastfeeding, pacifier usage, whom to allow in the room after birth, and so forth.

Your best bet is to set up a plan that states your plans for having skin to skin contact, etc.. but know that it may change as your are having surgery.

The best birth plan you can have is to arrive at the hospital at the appointed time and allow the health care professionals to do their job.

A good birth plan would include making sure that you have everything packed for yourself and the baby ready for the hospital. Knowing the person who is going to be with you in the delivery room. Take a list of phone numbers to notify those who want to know after the birth.
