A dating ultrasound is an ultrasound that they use to take measurements of the baby to help estimate a due date. Dating ultrasounds are commonly used for women who do not remember the last period or when she conceived. Some doctors will still do these for women that do remember to help make an accurate due date.

An ultrasound which determines how far along the woman has become in the current pregnancy, hence the term "dating ultrasound".
