A good slope to aim for is around five percent, or six inches of slope for the first ten feet.

Don't start the slope to near the house. You will need at least 6 feet wide to walk around the house. The slope should be a gradual decline, because you will still need to cut the grass and if the slope is to long you might tip over with the lawnmower.

The common landscape slope should be 6 inches for about 10 feet out from the house. Slope grade is about 5%. This can be measured by tying string to posts and measuring from the foundation to 10 feet out and measuring string level. If it is not level at 6 inches, you will need to fix it.

The consensus seems to be that a good slope to aim for when grading land extending out from a house foundation is 6 inches for the first 10 feet(that's a slope of 5 percent)
