in addition to the muscle cramp, i think "charlie horse" is also used to refer to something that kids often do to eachother -- jamming their knee into someone else's thigh. both of them hurt... ouch!

A charley horse is the tightening of the muscle in the calf of the leg or in the foot at times. It can be caused from not enough potassium or to much calcium in the body. A Charley horse can also be a common during pregnancy and after strenuous exercise.

A sudden painful cramp that occurs in a muscle. These cramps can cause extreme soreness and often occur after exercise but also can be related to lack of certain vitamins or nutrients. It's not uncommon to have multiple spasms at one time. The best remedy is stand up and walk it out. It feels so good when its over.

its a spazm of the muscles due to over straining. my husband used to call them a clyde donkey. the best thing to do is put a wet towel in the microwave and put it on the charlie horse. it helps them slowly relax.
