Depending on the type of tire, a few diffrent things could happen. The tire could simply just go flat, or the tread could blow and cause loss of rubber.

A tire has a catastrophic failure due to either a hole that causes rapid deflation or low tire pressure that causes the tire to fail. The tire, usually at high speeds, will break apart and come off of the rim. This can cause the driver to lose control and crash.

The tire explodes with a noise similar to a shotgun blast. A blowout on a front tire will cause the vehicle to pull to the side of the blown tire. Separating tread from the tire may cause damage to adjacent body panels.
