She retired from film in her early twenties. She, then, went on to marry a couple of times and have three children. Shirley became very involved in politics and other initiatives.

After she "retired" from show business, she went into politics. She was married twice, and after hew movie career ended, she began a career as a public servant in 1967, where she worked for several presidents in appointed capacities. She ran for Congress, but was unsuccessful. She is currently still working in public service.

Shirley Temple Black, which is the married name that she goes by, is still alive, and has made some appearance on award shows and "Greatest Movie" type shows.
