I had extensive blood work performed last week and just received the results. At the top it says RDW.

It indicates the amount of iron within your blood. Literally it stands for red blood cell distribution width. A higher RDW number may indicate the development of numerous diseases.

RDW is the red blood cell distribution in the body. But you have not mentioned wether your RDW is low or high. Higher RDW is indicative of anaemia or some other of kind of infection in the body. You should take the report and consult your doctor and whatever your doctor advises follow it to be on safe side.
