Assuming the vehicle is a Ford, this error code typically means there is a problem with the camshaft position sensor (CPS). It could be the wiring to the sensor, the camshaft position sensor, or even the PCM. Be sure to check each of these before replacing the camshaft position sensor.

P0340 is a generic code used on all OBDII vehicles. P0340 suggests that the cam position sensor is failing. Don't assume the sensor is bad without checking connectors and wire condition between the sensor and the computer.
