It could mean the person is vomiting blood. This can be caused by bleeding in the intestinal tract, which requires the services of an upper G.I. specialist. It could be anything from an ulcer to something far more serious, so the best thing to do is see a physician and find out.

The dark, almost black, vomit is a sign of bleeding in the stomach. It is also known as "coffee ground emesis" since it us usually the color of coffee ground.

They could have eaten something really dark. Most commonly though, and more serious, is that the person has digested blood in their stomach that they are vomiting back up. This requires medical attention soon.

I think the person would be throwing up blood or maybe infection from their intestines or their stomach. The person might have a tumor in their digestive tract or it really could be anywhere in their body. If you get gall stones that could make you throw up like this, or your liver.
