She may be asking becuase she herself has a crush on you and is interested in dating you. She may alos be asking because she has a feeling that you do, though she may have no intention of going out with you.

Probably she honestly wants to know if you like her as a girlfriend, but be careful, unless you know her well. She may not have the purest of motives. Talking with girls can be tricky. I would suggest answering with a question: "why, do you have one on me? "

It probably means that she's interested in the person because if she didn't she probably wouldn't even bring it up. Or it means that she likes you and she's a taking a chance to see if the feelings mutual.
