Study proper foal presentation. Have towels, iodine, gloves on hand. Braid mare's tail up out of the way. Placenta should be expelled with in an hour after foal's birth. Call vet for excessive bleeding, improper foal presentation, or retained placenta. Rub foal down and dip umbilical stump with iodine. Offer mare warm bran mash once she is up.
