What determines if a pregnant cat needs to have a C-section?

My vet thinks it might be a possibility, but I don't know why.

If a cat in labor has strained with contractions for more than four hours and has not produced a kitten, a c-section will be performed. The surgery is also performed in the instance that the kittens are too big to pass through the birth canal.

If the cat have problems with her pregnancy, or the babies need to come out earlier than the normal timing, you should use C-section.
