The treaty resolved a dispute, not a war, between Spain (which was then known as Aragon and Castile)and Portugal. It was called the Treaty of Tordesillas and was signed by Ferdinand II of Aragon and John II of Portgual. It divided trading and colonizing rights between Spain and Portugal, to the exclusion of other nations, for all newly discovered lands.
