Popping and Grinding in the hip when accompanied with pain could be a warning sign for osteoarthritis. This can be determined by your health care professional. Osteoarthritis in the hip usually starts as pain when weight or pressure is put on the joint but as it progresses and cartilage wears away bone rub together causing the grinding and popping noises.

In many cases popping and grinding does not indicate pathology. however, especially if accompanied by pain, it may indiacte the precursor of osteoarthritis. You should see your family doctor, who via simple exam and xray can help tell you if this is the case. It is eventually treated via a hip replacement.

That you better see a doctor asap. If you are older this could be a sign of arthritis. It could result in hip replacement if you don't have it looked soon.

Any popping or griding could mean that you've dislocated your hip, that it's somehow misaligned, or not being properly lubricated. Also it could be that some of the tendons or ligaments in the area have somehow been damaged.

You could have scoliosis or your hip could be out of alignment. I have this problem and it helps to go to an active release therapist.
