What could cause my Nissan RPM gauges to fluctuate?

I have noticed that the rmp gauge on my Nissan seems to fluctuate, it goes from very low to very high without me accelerating.

I would say that you either have a bad battery, or alternator. This could very well be the problem, it is a very common mishap in gauge readings. The best thing I feel that you could do is use a battery tester, or get a mechanic to check the alternator.

Depending on what year Nissan it is, depends on the probable cause. If the RPM is cable driven then a worn or sloppy drive cable is the cause.

I would have to think there would have to be something wrong with your actual gauges. I would have them checked by a mechanic then replaced.

you could have a bad gage or the computer may need to be checked. it sounds like the gage is the problem.
