What could be wrong if my cat won't feed her newborn kittens?

Her milk may not have come in, but in some cases, particularly a young mother, she just rejects the kittens. She may be ill, needs to be seen, check her mammary glands for infection. However, this is usually what I stated before, you need to feed or foster the kits.

There are a few things that could be wrong. They may not have her scent if you picked them up or she may sense that the are not medically alright.

She could have complications from her pregnancy, like bloodloss. These health problems can limit her ability to care for her kittens. Also, stress especially in first time mothers can lead to abandonment. Make sure to limit the mother's exposure to other pets (including cats) and general distrubances.

Many mother cats dont feed their kittens, this is because they were too young when they became pregnant or not ready for kitens. You would have to find right away a second mother cat to take care of them, or you could try feeind them canned cat milk replacer.
