Fungal infection. Many kinds of fungal infection may populate the bark or trunk of any palm tree. Usually they are not harmful to the tree.

A few different things could be causing the spots. The plant could have a fungus or an insect problem. It could also have a manganese deficiency or be getting too much water. There is also the possibility of root rot which means you would have to dig up the roots and remove any infected areas.

The spots could be caused by scale, a small slow-moving insect that appears motionless, and harms the plant by sucking plant juices. Suspect scale if the spots are brownish, and you can scrape them off. A whiter spot will remain below the brown you scrape off.

You need to contact a greenhouse they will be able to tell you what is causing it and what you need to get that will fix the problem. It could be that it isn't getting enough sun and to much water they are a very touchy plant to try and keep alive.

If the spots you are seeing on your sago palm are yellow it could be that it is a fungus. It might help to leave it outdoors as much as possible and it would also help to purchase something at your local store that helps with pests and fungus to make sure to take care of all possibilities.

If it is spotted, the plant may be trouble. Although yes, this may be common, it indicates that the plant is deprived of necessary nutrition. Re soil the plants as well as water daily.

If the spots look sort of like bleach spots right in the leaves, it is most likely that the leaves were damaged by getting too cold at some point. If the spots are on top of the leaf, they could be bugs. If it is powdery, it might be fungus.
