If the cable from the alternator is connected to the top post of the starter relay voltage will be applied to the solenoid after the engine starts and prevent it from disengaging the starter. Connect the alternator lead to the bottom relay post to solve your burn out problem.

Buy an aftermarket cheap one. and if it has any electrical connections check them all to be tight. I had the same problem with a Dodge a few years ago and bought two of the same starter (cant remember brand) bought a cheaper one and it worked fine for me at least, hopefully nothing electrical.

The most common problem i have seen resulting in solenoid failure would be the starter motor pulling to much amperage. I also would strongly advise the use of a ford solenoid,i have seen a lot less failures of the factory units. You may be able to have your starter rebuilt by a builder.

The starter solenoid can burn out often because there is a problem with the starter motor drawing to much current through it. Starter should be tested.
