Your cat may have a hairball. Try using an over the counter hairball medication, like Laxatone, available at all pet stores. It is a flavored lubricant that can help prevent and eliminate hairballs. It is also possible that your cat ingested a foreign body (string, piece of plastic) that is making it difficult to swallow and digest its food.

Hairballs. If you have a long hair, hairballs will be a big issue. There are a number of treats and/or treatments that help cats process hairballs. I tried a fish flavored ointment that had to be put on the cat's paw so he would lick it off. He hated it! Visit your local pet store and ask for suggestions.

First, cats lick themselves to bathe, to they often swallow hair on accident. They could be gagging that up. Second, your cat could be sick.
