Brown is a neutral color, so you can use what ever color you want really and it will go with it. If you want to go with nature tones, try greens, light blues, etc. Fall theme, try reds and yellows and oranges.
First look around the room: color of the walls and other furniture. If your walls are a soft gold, then to add some color try adding teal and gold pillows.
